Start by sending us clear photographs of the kitchen.
We use your photos to understand the layout and identify the visible components that may be required. These can include doors, drawer fronts, panels, plinths and other finishing components.
This allows us to prepare a free guide price before you decide whether to take the project further.
If you are within our Professional Home Survey area and decide to proceed, the next stage is the survey.
Why we prefer a Professional Home Survey
Accurate measurements matter when ordering made-to-measure kitchen doors.
Even a small difference can affect how replacement fronts look and operate. A kitchen may also contain much more than standard doors.
There can be drawer fronts, end panels, fillers, plinths, trims, integrated appliances and unusual cabinets. Different hinge arrangements may also need to be considered.
Our Professional Home Survey is designed to verify the measurements, quantities and specification required for your project before manufacture.
It also means you do not have to work out every component yourself.
The survey is not a fitting or installation service. Easy DIY Doors is supply-only. You remain free to choose your own fitter or tradesperson.
If the surveyed scope and quantities materially match those used for your original guide price, your quoted price remains unchanged.
What happens during the Professional Home Survey?
The survey helps us build an accurate specification for the replacement components required for your kitchen.
Depending on the project, this can include checking:
Existing kitchen doors
Drawer fronts
Panels and exposed ends
Plinths and finishing components
Door opening directions
Hinge requirements and positions
Handles where required
Unusual or non-standard components
The overall layout and quantities
Every kitchen is different. We therefore do not rely on assumptions about supposedly standard door sizes.
Once the survey information has been checked, the made-to-measure components can be specified for your individual project.
What if I am outside the Professional Home Survey area?
You can still order from Easy DIY Doors.
Customers outside our Professional Home Survey area can use our dedicated self-measuring option.
This provides a structured way to send us your own measurements and photographs.
When using this option, the accuracy of customer-supplied measurements is the customer's responsibility. Products are manufactured to the measurements provided. Every measurement should therefore be carefully checked before submission.
How to measure existing kitchen doors
If you are using the self-measuring option, first check that your existing fronts fit correctly.
Where they do, measure the existing door or drawer front itself.
Record every measurement in millimetres.
Always record:
HEIGHT first, then WIDTH.
For example:
715mm high x 496mm wide
Do not round measurements up or down.
If an existing front measures 496mm wide, record 496mm rather than 500mm.
Measure each front individually. Do not assume that similar-looking doors are identical.
When an existing door or drawer front is being used as the reference, provide its exact finished size to the millimetre.
What if there is no existing door to measure?
Sometimes an existing front may be missing or unsuitable to use as a measuring template.
In this situation, you may need to measure the cabinet unit itself.
The calculation is different.
For a unit measurement:
Unit height minus 5mm = door/front height
Unit width minus 4mm = door/front width
Always record the finished measurement HEIGHT first, then WIDTH.
Do not apply these deductions when measuring an existing door or drawer front.
If you are measuring an existing front, record its actual exact size.
How to measure drawer fronts
Drawer fronts should also be measured individually.
Measure the existing drawer front itself and record:
HEIGHT x WIDTH in millimetres
Do not assume that two or three stacked drawer fronts are identical because they look similar.
Record each one separately.
Clear photographs are also useful. This is particularly important for pan drawers, internal drawers, pull-outs and other less common arrangements.
Doors, hinges and opening directions
Replacement doors may require information about how the existing doors operate.
If requested during the self-measuring process, provide clear photographs of the existing hinges and the inside of the cabinet.
Do not guess hinge positions or specifications.
If hinge measurements or other details are required, record them carefully using the instructions provided as part of the self-measuring process.
This is another reason we recommend the Professional Home Survey wherever it is available.
Panels, plinths and finishing components
A kitchen makeover is rarely just a collection of replacement doors.
Visible end panels, plinths, fillers and other finishing components can make an important difference to the finished appearance.
This is why we ask for photographs showing the whole kitchen, not only close-up pictures of individual doors.
The photographs help us understand how the different components work together. They also help us prepare a more meaningful guide price.
During a Professional Home Survey, the relevant components can then be checked as part of the overall specification.
For self-measuring customers, the required information and measurements must be supplied accurately before manufacture.
Check the condition of your existing kitchen
Made-to-measure replacement fronts are intended for kitchens where the existing cabinet carcasses are suitable to retain.
Check the general condition of your units before proceeding.
Significant water damage, badly damaged cabinets or loose units may require further attention before replacement fronts are suitable.
Photographs can help us understand the project initially. However, photographs alone cannot guarantee the condition or suitability of existing cabinets.
Measure twice before submitting
If you are self-measuring, take your time.
Check every measurement at least twice before submitting it.
Make sure that:
Measurements are in millimetres
Height is recorded before width
Existing fronts are measured at their exact finished size
Unit measurements use the correct deductions where applicable
Doors and drawer fronts are measured individually
Photographs clearly show the kitchen and relevant components
Measurements have not been estimated or rounded
Made-to-measure products are produced specifically for the measurements supplied. Accuracy matters.
